Crossing MacKenzie

A fiddler, a guitarist and an accordion player walk into a bar one day, drink water, tea, and cranberry juice and play some mighty tunes together. A few decades later they emerge into the Edmonton music scene as a tight trio of good friends with songs, tunes and tales to share.

Bonnie Gregory (Fiddle and vocals) Steve Bell (Piano, Accordion and vocals) and Andreas Illig (Guitar)  have come a long way from the session scene on Edmonton’s Whyte Avenue, through several bands, recordings and tours to form the trio Crossing MacKenzie.  Their love for acoustic folk and trad music from Celtic to Scandinavian to Appalachian and Canadiana can be heard in their intricate arrangements of songs and tunes, new and old, originals and traditional.

After making their debut as a trio at the Water Valley Celtic Festival in 2024 the threesome have played several gigs around Edmonton, and are looking forward to touring through Alberta in Summer 2025 with stops at the Blue Chair and the Carrot in Edmonton, Medicine Hat, Dinosaur Provincial Park, WaterValley and Lac La Biche.
